Background of the Study: Telemedicine has emerged as a transformative healthcare delivery model that allows for remote consultations, diagnosis, and treatment using telecommunications technology. This system has proven particularly beneficial in rural and underserved regions where access to healthcare facilities is limited. In Kano State, rural clinics face challenges such as inadequate healthcare infrastructure, shortage of healthcare providers, and transportation difficulties. Telemedicine has the potential to address some of these challenges by providing remote care, facilitating follow-up consultations, and extending healthcare access to underserved populations (Aminu & Aliyu, 2023).
However, despite the promising benefits of telemedicine, its adoption in rural clinics is hindered by several barriers. Nurses, as primary healthcare providers in these settings, are crucial to the successful implementation of telemedicine. Understanding the specific challenges nurses face in adopting telemedicine is essential for improving its implementation. This study seeks to assess the barriers that prevent nurses from adopting telemedicine in rural clinics in Kano State, including technological, institutional, and cultural factors.
Statement of the Problem: Telemedicine has the potential to improve healthcare delivery in rural Kano State, but its widespread adoption is limited by various challenges, particularly among nurses who are central to its implementation. These challenges include limited access to technology, insufficient training, and resistance to change within healthcare institutions. This study will investigate the barriers that hinder nurses in rural Kano State from effectively adopting and using telemedicine in their practice.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: The study will focus on nurses working in rural clinics across Kano State. Limitations include potential biases in responses due to the subjectivity of attitudes and perceptions, and the variability of telemedicine infrastructure across different clinics.
